Game Day: Saturday, May 5, 2018

Game day notes

  • Two game venues:  Most girls will play at Noonday Park field 9A near Quest Park. Noonday 9A is best accessed through the back Noonday entrance (548 Shallowford Road, Kennesaw, 30144). Some girls will play at United Quest Park. Check the roster table for your daughter’s game location.
  • Hydration:  Warm weather is here! Please make sure the girls bring plenty of water in an insulated jug, not just a small plastic water bottle. Hydrated players are more likely to perform well throughout the game. Link:  hydration tips
  • “DH” players needed:  We have room for a few players in the 9:00 or 10:30 games to play again at 12:30. If your daughter is interested in playing twice (we call this “DH” or double-header play), please e-mail Ward.
  • Warm-up captains:  Girls whose names are in bold print with a (C) indicator are warm-up captains. They are responsible for gathering their teammates and helping the coaches start pre-game warm-up. Link:  warm-up ideas
  • Weekly quiz:  We post a quiz each week below the team assignments. Scroll past the roster tables for quiz details.

Weekly quiz – about the goalkeeper

You can win a treat after our Wednesday or Thursday practice if you can answer these questions about the role of the goalkeeper.

  1. You are playing goalkeeper. Where should you position yourself?
    1. Stay on the goal line and protect the goal.
    2. Move up and back as the ball moves up and back, and protect the space behind our center back(s).
  2. How do you make the goal smaller for an opponent who is attacking the goal?
    1. Send the goal to a metal shop for modification.
    2. Step toward the attacker.
    3. Crawl inside the goal and hide.
  3. You are playing goalkeeper. You just made a save and have the ball in your hands. (Goalie of the second award!) Are you now part of the attacking team or the defending team?
  4. What should you do with the ball?
    1. Take a breath and relax for a few seconds. I made the save, so now I’m part of the attacking team. I should scan the field, run toward the top corner of the big box, and then either roll, throw or kick the ball to a teammate who is open toward the sideline, away from our goal.
    2. Yikes, I’m near my own goal, I have the ball in my hands, and it feels like a hot potato! It’s panic time, so I should roll the ball up the middle to get rid of it as fast as I can.
