Game Day: Saturday, May 12, 2018

Game day notes

  • Game venue:  The girls will play at Noonday Park field 9A near Quest Park. Noonday 9A is best accessed through the back Noonday entrance (548 Shallowford Road, Kennesaw, 30144).
  • Hydration:  Warm weather is here! Please make sure the girls bring plenty of water in an insulated jug, not just a small plastic water bottle. Hydrated players are more likely to perform well throughout the game. Link:  hydration tips
  • Warm-up captains:  Girls whose names are in bold print with a (C) indicator are warm-up captains. They are responsible for gathering their teammates and helping the coaches start pre-game warm-up. Link:  warm-up ideas
  • Weekly quiz:  We post a quiz each week below the team assignments. Scroll past the roster tables for quiz details.

Weekly quiz – safe play near our own goal

You can win a treat after our Wednesday or Thursday practice if you can answer these questions about safety vs. danger when you have the ball near our own goal.

  1. Why does the coach say “danger ball!” when you dribble or pass into the space in front of our own goal?
    1. Because you’re taking a big risk! If you lose the ball, the other team gets an easy chance to score.
    2. It’s where dinosaurs roamed thousands of years ago.
    3. Because you can rearrange the letters in “danger ball” to form “nerd lab gal.”
  2. Why is it usually safer and smarter to dribble or pass toward the sideline, away from our own goal?
    1. It’s where dinosaurs roamed thousands of years ago.
    2. There’s usually more open space and less opponents in the wide areas. And if we do lose the ball out wide, the other team doesn’t get an easy scoring chance.
    3. You may get a chance to smile at your grandmother!
