Weekly quiz – 1v1 defending
Girls can win a treat if they can demonstrate proper 1v1 defending technique, and also answer these questions about 1v1 defending.
- When an opponent has the ball, should you run away from her toward your own goal? Or should you stand and wait for her to come toward you? Or should you shut down the space between you and her?
- When is the best time to shut down space between you and an opponent who has the ball? After she gets a head start, or as soon as possible so she can’t get a head start?
- What’s the best way to shut down space? Run in like a crazed banshee? Stand and watch like a used potato? Run in “fast to slow”, and “high to low” so you can change direction if needed to stay between the opponent and our goal?
- When should you try to win the ball? Right now? Never? Or stay goal-side and be patient, and wait until the opponent makes a mistake and loses control of the ball?
