The US Women’s National Team faces Germany, France and England in the 2017 SheBelieves Cup. The tournament starts March 1st. With no World Cup or Olympics this year, this event will likely be the premier women’s tournament of 2017. All four teams have top-5 world rankings. The Fox network will televise each USA game. Here’s the TV schedule:
- Wednesday, March 1: USA vs. Germany, 7:00 PM on Fox Sports 1 (Comcast 875)
- Saturday, March 4: USA vs. England, 5:00 PM on Fox
- Tuesday, March 7: USA vs. France, 7:00 PM on Fox Sports 1
Viewing tips
We encourage the girls (parents too!) to watch part of each game to see what high level soccer looks like. Many young kids get bored watching sports — they would rather play! — but they are more likely to watch a game if they have specific viewing goals. Things to look for:
- Do players keep the ball moving while they play, or do they stop the ball and look around?
- Do players get their heads up and turn away from defenders, or do they play with heads down and dribble into defenders?
- Do players keep the ball either by dribbling or passing, or do they kick the ball and chase it?
- When the USA is attacking, do the backs stay back near their own goal, or do they move forward to help the attack? How far forward?
NTH and other Georgia connections
The USA tournament roster includes NTH Academy alumni Emily Sonnett (back row, right side in the photo: she met the girls in early November) and Jane Campbell, along with other Georgia girls Morgan Brian and Kelley O’Hara.
