August, 2023: Twitter served us very well over many years as our weather status update channel. But things change, and recent Twitter (also called X) changes add friction to our needs to post quick weather updates.
So we’re implementing a new method for posting weather updates. It uses our Junior Academy Girls web site. No app is needed, no registration or login is required. You just need access to a web browser, and a simple bookmark.
Posting updates: If weather is iffy, we’ll post an update on our Junior Academy Girls’ web site’s News page in the 4:00 – 4:30 PM time period. Parents, there’s one prep task to make it easier.
Create a bookmark to our News page:
Create a bookmark for our Junior Academy News page in your web browser. You want easy access to this (lengthy) web site address: https://www.nasaacademygirls.org/nasa-tophat-junior-academy-girls/news/. So save that address under a short, catchy bookmark named JrAcadNews. (You can choose any bookmark you prefer, and you don’t need to submit it to us for approval.)
When weather is iffy (such as extreme heat or thunderstorms, you can open the bookmark in the 4:00 – 4:30 PM time period to display our News page . If there are weather updates, they’ll be posted at the top of the News page.
No updates? That means we’ll practice as normally scheduled.
About PlayMetrics, and potentially misleading cancellation notices:
PlayMetrics’ cancellation guideline is “if fields are closed, practice for teams assigned to those fields is canceled.” Coaches don’t have permission to edit the PlayMetrics notices, and PlayMetrics doesn’t have provisions for backup plans, so you’ll get PlayMetrics notices whether accurate or not.
Quest Park practices: If weather is playable, we often reserve the puddle jumper court as a practice backup site. Metro North Park practices: If weather is playable, we often still practice on the Tops field.
