We think the girls are ready for a new challenge! We’ll give them a home assignment every couple of weeks, where we ask them to practice 1-2 skills on their own for 5-10 minutes a few times each week. We also include fun games that give the girls a chance to use the related skills in a competition.
Many of these activities only need a small amount of space. Some can be done indoor if needed. These items come from our playing at home catalog.
Assignment #2 (posted 03/01/2017)
- Dribbling turns and stop and go moves. These skills give players the ability to find (or create) open space away from defenders. They lead to exciting, creative attacking play. If haven’t mastered any moves yet, start with the basic moves below. If you can do the basics, work on the intermediate or advanced moves. If you want to be a ruler, work on the super-advanced move. When you want to test them against an opponent, try a game of electric fence or snow cones!
- Basic moves:
- The pullback turn and the pull-push stop and go move
- The inside of the foot U-turn
- The stop turn
- Intermediate moves:
- The outside of the foot U-turn
- The “cookie” stop and go move
- Advanced moves:
- The step-over turn
- The yo yo stop and go move
- The Cruyff turn and the inside / outside stop and go move
- The outside / inside stop and go move
- Super-advanced (for rulers): The stop turn / step-over turn combination
- Basic moves:
- Fun games: dribbling marbles, wrist girl, electric fence, snow cones. These games give you a chance to use turns and stop and go moves. We encourage the girls to challenge mom, dad, siblings or friends in any of these games.
