Home assignment #3 (spring 2017)

By | March 16, 2017

V-pullsWe think the girls are ready for a new challenge! We’ll give them a home assignment every couple of weeks, where we ask them to practice 1-2 skills on their own for 5-10 minutes a few times each week. We also include fun games that give the girls a chance to use the related skills in a competition.

Many of these activities only need a small amount of space. Some can be done indoor if needed. These items come from our playing at home catalog.

Assignment #3 (posted 03/16/2017)

  • V-pull moves:  A V-pull move is very effective when an opponent is blocking your path. It allows you to create space and change direction with two quick touches. These moves are great for getting away from a defender, plus they work well even if you’re standing still. (It’s easy to get away from a defender when you’re already running.) Check our V-pull link for descriptions and video demos.
  • Fun games:  dribbling marbleswrist girl, Texas Draw and dribblesnow cones. These games give you a chance to use V-pull moves in game situations. We encourage the girls to challenge mom, dad, siblings or friends in any of these games.
  • Challenge:  If you practice enough, maybe you can pull off the 8-move V-pull cycle shown below!

Combo:  an 8-move V-pull cycle (advanced):

This is a challenging fast footwork activity that cycles through eight separate V-pull moves:

  1. Right foot front V-pull, finish with the outside of the foot
  2. Left foot front V-pull, finish with the outside of the foot
  3. Right foot front V-pull, finish with the inside of the foot
  4. Left foot front V-pull, finish with the inside of the foot
  5. Two foot front V-pull: right foot / left foot
  6. Two foot front V-pull: left foot / right foot
  7. Right foot reverse V-pull (behind the back)
  8. Left foot reverse V-pull (behind the back)
