We kick-off the season with our Junior Academy Team Camp starting Monday, July 18th at Metro North Park (MNP).
Proper hydration and foot care are two huge factors in keeping your daughter fit so she can get the most out of camp.
Parking and field access: Metro North Park is currently a construction site as field 3 is being converted from grass to artificial turf, and the turf field itself is also being renovated. A section of the main parking lot is fenced off for equipment, and the main walkway to the clubhouse is closed. Link: parking and field access information
Hydration
Your daughter should start drinking extra fluids the weekend before camp. If she waits until Monday, she’ll be fighting an uphill battle! She should bring a large insulated water jug (minimum half-gallon, labeled with her name or initials) filled with ice and water or Gatorade. We’ll have water refills available at the park. Bottled water may be convenient, but it’s not practical for the camp environment. The water won’t stay cold, so girls won’t want to drink it, and they’ll start down the road to dehydration.
Foot care
The big issues are avoiding foot pain and blisters. Tips include wearing turf shoes instead of cleats, making sure new shoes are “broken in” before camp, making sure shin guards aren’t rubbing directly on feet or ankles, and wearing slides after camp.
