Practice schedule updates (Halloween, end of Daylight Saving Time, cooler weather)

Fall is here, which means the end of Daylight Savings Time, cooler weather and shorter days. And Halloween! This results in minor practice schedule changes, and some tips on dealing with cooler weather.

Daylight Saving Time ends

  • Our Tuesday and Thursday Metro North practice session times shift 15 minutes. We’ll start at 4:45 and finish at 6:00 PM or dark.
  • We won’t have enough light for post-practice goalkeeper training. We’ll resume our weekly goalkeeper training sessions in the spring.

United Quest Park practice schedule:

  • We have lights at our practice field, so we’ll keep our usual practice schedule (see Halloween exception below).

Cool / cold weather alerts

Label warm-ups:

There will be days when players will want to wear warm-up jackets and pants (link:  tips on cold weather attire). As a player warms up, she may want to remove a layer, so off comes a jacket or pants. And on comes the evil lost & found gremlin. Please make sure your daughter’s warm-up jacket and pants are labeled — use a Sharpie to mark her initials and uniform number on one of the internal tags or labels. This will prevent needless lost and found angst.

Quest weather effect:

This note is for players who practice at United Quest Park. As cooler weather hits during the fall, temperatures at Quest and Noonday tend to feel 5-10 degrees colder than the true temperature due to the close proximity to Noonday Creek. Whatever the weather is at your house, have your daughter dress for 10 degrees colder and she’ll be prepared. Link:  tips on cold weather attire

Halloween-related schedule changes

2016 Halloween Soccer ShockerTuesday, October 30 — Soccer Shocker:

We replace our usual practice with our annual Halloween Soccer Shocker costume party. We invite all Junior Academy Girls to attend!  Any girls who normally practice at Metro North on Tuesday are welcome (but not required) to make-up the missed practice at Quest on Monday. (We go 5:30 – 6:45 PM at Quest Park field 7.)

Wednesday, October 31 — Halloween:

No practice. Girls get the night off for Halloween trick or treat time! Any girls who normally practice Wednesday at Quest are welcome (but not required) to make-up the missed practice at Metro North on Thursday. (We go 4:45 – 6:00 PM at Metro North on the TOPS field.)

Winter break starts November 18

We have our last fall season game day (our Fall Finale mini tournament) on Saturday, November 17. We start our 2018-2019 winter break Sunday, November 18th. Spring season practices will start in February, exact date to be determined in late January. Past history usually has us starting the Monday after the Super Bowl.
