We finish our regular spring game day schedule on Saturday, May 14 with a trio of 7v7 games at Metro North Park.
Game day notes:
- Uniforms: girls wear yellow, but should also bring blue just in case: We face three different teams. Uniform color guides request the home team (us) wear yellow. Easy enough. But if an opponent shows up in yellow, it’s our obligation as home team to change to a contrasting color. Tip: Pack your daughter’s blue uniform into a large zip-lock bag and place the bag into her equipment backpack.
- One final weekend of play May 21-22: We have one more competition on our schedule: the NTH Adidas Select Cup tournament over the weekend of May 21-22. We expect to receive more info about this event on May 9.

Dribbling moves of the month:
May: moves to get behind a defender
We highlighted dribbling turns during March, and stop and go moves during April. If you’ve gotten good at dribbling turns and stop and go moves, you’re ready for the next step — moves to get behind a defender.
Dribbling turns and stop and go moves help you get away from a defender. You also need moves to beat and get behind a defender so you can dribble toward goal, not just dribble away from a defender.
The very best dribblers learn tricks (called fakes or feints) to get behind (beat) defenders who are blocking their path to goal. These are the players who make spectacular plays and either score goals or setup goals for teammates.
Here’s an example of the step-over fake, also called the Rivelino:
